This one can be dangerous. Please
don't try it near anyone and always point the bottle away from people.
As a matter of fact, don't try it at all.
I've done it plenty of times but I've almost singed my eyebrows
doing it. I'm only including this trick as a matter of record. I
don't want to be held responsible for any idiot who ends up with
a straw in his eye or a burned down bar.
Effect:
Shoot a
flaming straw across the bar. It's a great effect with a big flash
of fire but it's dangerous.
Supplies:
Empty Vodka
Bottle
Matches
Toothpicks
Straw
Lawyer on retainer
Solution:
Once you
serve the last of the vodka, recap the bottle and run hot water
over it for about 5 minutes. While the hot water is pouring over
it, prepare a straw by piercing one end of the straw with two
toothpicks. They should form an X through the inside of the straw.
It will look like a ski pole. Get your matches ready to light.
Take the bottle out from under the tap and open it. As quickly
as possible. Place the straw into the bottle the toothpicks should
keep it from falling all the way down. light a match and drop
it into the bottle from as far away as possible. You'll hear a
whoosh, see a blue flame and watch the straw fly. When I've done
it, the straw has melted on it's way up and ended up stuck to
the ceiling.
